How gardens influence buyers in spring

Going by the meteorological seasons, Spring began on the 1 March. This year, for once, the weather played ball and the official beginning of spring was accompanied by glorious sunshine and warmer weather that got everyone thinking about summer. It spurred many of us to get outside, admiring the countryside as flowers and trees bloom once more. It’s a timely reminder of how important your garden or outside space can be as a selling point for your property this season. A well-staged, attractive garden can create a welcoming first impression for potential buyers and could even be the feature that clinches your sale. With Spring’s promise of new growth now can be one of the best times to maximise its appeal. But how do you make the most of your outside space? Prepare your canvas As with inside space, great presentation is essential. Tidy up the exterior of your home by checking over for damage or wear caused by the winter weather. Fences may need a quick lick of paint or even replacement if they are falling down or damaged and likely to put buyers off. March is the time that many of us drag out our lawnmowers for the first cut of the year. If you are selling this becomes an even more important task. A quick mow will provide a tidier canvas for you to highlight all the benefits of your garden. Trees and shrubs should have been pruned ready for regrowth and the mouldy leaves of autumn consigned to the compost heap. Plant for interest Although spring plants are starting to bloom your garden may still look a little bare. Planting a few colourful, but still weather-resistant plants, can help to bring interest to your space. If you are reluctant to invest ahead of your move you could always use potted plants instead. Build a wildlife habitat According to Ideal Home, sustainability and wildlife-friendly spaces are two of the biggest gardening trends of 2025. These are easy trends to incorporate. It could be a wildflower area, a bee hotel or another feature designed to attract insects and other creatures to your space. Providing such eco features appeals to buyers who want their garden to be more environmentally friendly. Pollinator-friendly plants also reduce the need for harmful chemicals. You can also use eco-friendly materials for garden structures and decors, such as natural paving options. Dress for summer It may not yet be time to set up the sun lounger in the garden but by dressing your outside space correctly you can hint at the balmier days to come and draw buyers in. A table and chairs and a patio heater or firepit could have them imagining sitting out year-round to enjoy a sunset or two. Since you are planning to move you won’t want to invest too much, so choose pieces that will easily fit into your new property, clean up tired furniture hidden in the shed or scout local marketplaces for free or cheap options.
